Gremlin connecting to webhost since CG-NAT implemented

$

Hello there,

I'm posting to see if anyone knows of a fix for a connectivity issue I'm having, that began the same day my ISP (Snap / 2degrees) switched my account to CG-NAT.

Since that happened, whenever I boot up my PC and try to connect to my website's backend / folders via Windows Explorer, first time round I get a Network / failed connection error. However, if I then reboot the PC, the second time round the connection is established just fine.

I've tried a number of things to see if I can get a connection on the first boot, such as first running a batch file with permutations of:

ipconfig /release, ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /renew

but they don't have any effect, and seeing as I know diddly-squit about Networking / comms, I've run out of ideas.

I'm running Windows 8.1, and I thought maybe I'd need a Windows Update to fix this, but I don't apply updates at all, as I have a lot of Windows XP software, and the first thing Windows Update does is disable backwards compatibility (it's automatic, it doesn't ask permission). So of neccessity, Windows Update is disabled so I can continue to run XP-based software.

Does anybody know of a fix that would save me having to start my PC twice in order to connect to my webhost via Windows Explorer ...? The command used in the Desktop shortcut is:

\\server12.myhostname.co.nz@SSL@2078\DavWWWRoot

Thanks!Larry

2degrees VoLTE setting available on iPhone

I just updated my iPhone to iOS 13.2.2 and after a reboot it asked to update the carrier settings. I now notice under Mobile settings the 2degrees Voice & data options now have "4G, VoLTE On" and "4G, VoLTE Off". When I go to turn it on, it has this scary message:

Should I enable it? Or is that not wise right now?

Unhappy with not being able to change contract plan pricing

Pretty frustrated to see 2degrees offering new customers $85/month for unlimited 950/400 fibre - with a $200 joining credit, while I'm locked into a contract under the same terms for $110 per month....

My experience of other big brand ISPs has always been they were always quite happy to extend your contract for an additional term of lock in, and match the pricing to keep existing customers happy.

Spoke to two layers of CSRs who essentially said "I don't want to, you can't make me, na na na na na".

The stupidity of the situation is my cancellation fee is $249 to break the contract - new customers get a $200 credit and $25 cheaper per month - I'd be better off to cancel and re join or cancel and find a new provider with a better rate who actually appreciate their existing customers...

Anyone else in the same boat had any luck talking some sense into 2 degrees or conversely recommendations for a provider who actually values their customers? Like the product, good inter webs, but $25 just seems a bit rich per month above the market rate.

End of rant!

Contract resigned customers, Is 2Degrees charging you correctly?

Hi all,

So I've been with 2Degrees ultimate fibre unlimited plan 900/400mbps $110 per month broadband for some time now (1year) and have resign the contract for another year which 2D granted me Amazon prime free for 1 year with Half-Price Broadband Plan for 1 month. However, I noticed that my latest bill, 2Degrees is charging me $67.50...not $42.50..? Is anyone else being charged this? Tried reaching 2D agent, but no response and it's been 50 hours now. Screenshot below:

P.s. I was going to PM @rugrat to see how his offer is going with 2D but it seemed like he did not go along with it.

charged for pxt txts even though no pxt was sent

I have a weird thing happening with 2d txt. I'm on a free txts plan but I'm not a big user. I've noticed that each monthly bill sometimes has charges for pxts that I don't remember sending (I avoid using SMS for photos when WhatsApp is free). My current 2d account for the month so far shows:

Drilling in:

Now I only sent one message on 11 Nov, and one on 4 Nov, but there are 2 for each date showing. Looking at the 11 Nov pair:

I seem to have been charged twice for a PXT I never sent in the first place. Note that these two entries are identical (apart from one listing my number, and one listing the number I called). The timestamp is identical and corresponds exactly to the time I sent the txt. SMS's could get really expensive if this keeps up.

Now I have been mulling this over as I typed it, as you do, and I offer these thoughts, (but comment is of course welcomed):

I have a gravatar attached to my GMail account. I am using the Pulse SMS app for Android, and I notice that my avatar shows next to my conversation contributions, whereas some of my contacts show their avatar, some just show the coloured circle with an initial inside. Maybe I'm getting charged to send my avatar as a PXT?

Sometimes when I reply to a message, Pulse seems to think I might like a copy of the text sent to me, even though I just sent it. This could explain the doubling up.

Any thoughts please?

Are we any closer to getting eSIM on 2DM?

I know this has been asked a number of times but I thought I'd start a new thread as it's been a while since I last saw any news on this...

I have selfish reasons for this - I have a new job and the mobile is 2D, as is my personal device...and my personal device is better than the device I got from work...would be nice to combine the two without using my personal mobile number (I work in a BYOD=permissible environment).

Any updates?

have 2 degrees broadband with home phone plus but landline/cordless phone not allowing calls

Hi, I'm new to this forum and a little overwhelmed with the issue we have, so here goes.

We recently moved our broadband fibre, landline/cordless phone and mobile from Vodafone to 2 Degrees. Vodafone moved the mobile over fine, but when it came to the broadband and landline things started to get messy.

Vodafone wouldn't release our landline number which in turns caused 2 Degrees to not be able to connect us correctly. Eventually Vodafone released and 2 Degrees tell me everything is all set up ready to go.

The issue we have is our landline won't work. We have tried various versions of cords in various ports and the best we can get is a dial tone that goes no where and when I try to ring in I get an message saying the phone is not connected. We can see missed calls on the call log in the Fritz login.

I don't know what else to do. My understanding is that the landline/cordless phone connects through the modem, which is what we had when we were with Vodafone.

When the boys started the move from Vodafone to 2 degrees, they unplugged everything then started plugging 2 degrees in, they didn't pay attention to what came from where.

Purchased Australia roaming pack yet still charged for data while there?

My wife went over to Australia for a week for work as she's done a few times in the past few years. The Sunday before she left, we purchased a roaming pack for her for the week she would be there as we always do. She left on Monday and came back on Friday. We've never had any issues with doing this, however this time when we got our bill, it's showing roaming data and texts being used and charged for while she was over there, and a charge for the roaming pack as well.

While she was there, she did receive a text on Thursday saying she was close to using all of her roaming data pack data, so she turned data off on her iPhone. The bill is showing 777.39MB of roaming data and a charge of $27.74. She's rarely gone anywhere near this amount of data in a month, let alone a week. Even if she did use that much, it would only push her to 277mb beyond her 500mb data pack allowance.

Has anyone else ever had this happen? It's the first time we've ever had any issues like this with 2degrees (or anyone else) and I'm not sure what my next steps are to verify this charge is accurate, or if something odd happened. Turning off the mobile data (which she didn't turn back on until Saturday when she got up) should have stopped this from happening once she got the text.

What are my next steps here? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Yesterday I was confronted by a business that had lost its phone and internet services during a transition from one provider to another for both residential and business accounts of the customer. The further I got the more strange and complex it became.

In short the transition from one provider to another had only partially taken place, over a number of months, and to add further confusion fibre was installed at the address. Following the fibre installation, and with the installer saying everything is now working, dialogue continued with the previous company about closing accounts. In essence, the porting of the business had not taken place the account was closed and the numbers disconnected leaving the business with no phone connection. Bizarrely, while all services had appeared to stop for some reason naked ADSL was still available on one of the business lines.

Confused, and somewhat frustrated at trying to decipher the problem, I turned to NickMack - who has helped me many times in the past and who's level of service goes far beyond anything I've ever accounted before - for some guidance. First and foremost this problem had nothing to do with 2 Degrees and nor was it their problem to solve but...

After explaining the situation to Nick and asking for his thoughts this was his response...

"Really sorry to hear about the experience, let me see if we can help get them up and running in the first instance, I suspect once it's going, changing anything/providers is a stress they could do without as they are running a business"

This response was totally unexpected but not surprising.

Nick set to sort the problem despite us not being 2D customer. In so doing he engaged a further Geekzoner in Hio77 and between them isolated where the issue was early this morning. As the lines were disconnected the business ultimately no longer had a service provider so it was a no brainer - an online order around 3pm and a completed connection by 5pm

By 5pm this afternoon this business had working fibre broadband, phone lines and a personal delivery of the required modem and installation by Nick himself to the business to ensure it was all working.

2 Degrees got a new customer.

That is service, and it is why I always recommend to friends and family 2 Degrees.

From all involved on the business side and from me - thank you Nick and the staff at 2Degress for everything, thank you Hio77 for your professionalism and your ever willingness to help - some things you just can't control - and of course to Enable for facilitating this in such a short period of time.

You guys ROCK!

Problems with internet speeds

Hey , I have had an on going issue with my phone and internet. Chorus isn't fixing it , it's been going on for 4 months. Where the speed is showing at 17mbsp Download speed on the Chorus website and my modem interface. when I do an online speed test I get 0.40mbsp, one of the lowest speeds in New Zealand. a technician brought my modem and plugged directly into the cabinet and I received 0.40mbsp. I've tried spark, frizbox and net gear modems. I've tried gaming laptop, windows and MacBook laptops , and Ethernet cable and all 1-0.40mbsp. Download speeds. I'm only 800m from the cabinet , and on ADSL.

Any suggestions of what the problem could be , or how to fix it ,

FritzBox 7490 - What are the Pros and Cons combining the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands?Does its behave like a smart connect?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering what are the Pros and Cons combining the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands?Does its behave like a smart connect?. What I mean by the smart connect is, is the modem given with the same SSID to combine the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands able to auto handle connections? An example: devices that are within close range of the modem will connect to the 5Ghz band. If device is far away from the modem like (2 bars of the wifi signal), it will switch to the 2.4Ghz?

P.s. Asking this question (s) because I don't have the Fritzbox yet but am planning on getting it soon from 2D.

Thanks

2 Degrees - CG-NAT Slowing Things Down?

$

Hi All,

I've been with 2 Degrees in Wellington since 22nd July, on a 900/500 UFB plan. I was very happy with performance and the service initially, then got a bit grumpy when they introduced CG-NAT since it broke my VPN and a few other services. To be fair they did eventually move me back to a public IP address although it took them a few attempts to get it done.

However I am a Samknows Probe customer, and I have noticed that at the time of CG-NAT things became quite a bit slower, and it seems to be getting worse.

On this chart you can see that I was initially getting fairly average performance - until July 22nd I was with Vodafone Cable on a 950/100 plan.

After July 22nd I was regularly maxing out on domestic network performance. I was switched to CG-NAT on appx October 17th, which is exactly when performance goes off a cliff in the chart. I was switched to a public address on 22nd October, and performance remained about the same. As per the chart performance seems to even be getting worse over the last 6 weeks.

Has anybody else noticed any change in performance? Any other comments?

Thanks

Conrad

Mobile Coverage comparison

Extremely quick question, For those of you that have switch from Spark and Voda how does your coverage compare on 2D from that of your old carrier? I have been asked by small plumbing business if 2 Degrees is a good option, as they are struggling with their current Spark costs, 2 degrees is about 45% more cost effective on a like for like basis, they are based in the Manawatu-Wanganui region but the owners do travel far and wide in their motor home. Thank you in advance.

Is all OK with iMessage activation on the 2Degrees side?

$

This is not the typical thread on problems with iMessage activation after a port. I'm aware of the issues with the time it takes for the provider Apple uses to update the SMS routing tables.

I've just ported my wife's number from Vodafone to 2Degrees. It's prepay for now and she has credit on the account. I have verified that the phone number in iPhone's settings is correct.

In my past experience with iMessage activation after you toggle iMessage off and back on again, an SMS is sent to an international number. If a reply comes back, you're good, if not, you'll just see the message "waiting for activation" and it will be necessary to give it a while longer and try again.

However in this case, as soon as I toggle iMessage on, a pop-up screen appears saying that an error occurred with activation and to please try again later.

Checking usage, I can find no evidence that the SMS was sent, so I'm wondering if the SMS is even going out.

She can send other texts OK so the message centre info is right.

Any thoughts from @SaltyNZ or anyone else at 2Degrees would be much appreciated. Customer Care could only recommend the usual steps, all of which I'd already tried before contacting them.

Cheers.

Calls suspended for exceeding the 'Fair Use' policy

Apparently I've breached 2degrees fair use policy on my unlimited calls plan so I can't call anyone!

Problematically I'm not on an unlimited plan and have 3297 minutes left on my $30pm plan. I appear to have only made 4 calls in the past week!

Naturally I can't raise anyone at 2degrees as they are busy on other calls.

Colour me unimpressed.

Prepay Monthly - Charged but no data or minutes?

This may be a silly question but I'll ask anyway :)

I've been subscribed to the $19 prepay Monthly plan for a few years now and never had any issues until now.

My cc has been charged the monthly fee and I received the confirmation txt but using the 2D android app shows that I have no data and minutes and about $2 credit. Looks like the plan hasn't activated?

Has my plan not autorenewed and I've chewed through my credit at casual rates?

Thought I'd ask about this problem here before attempting the support call.

Pointers on Edimax 9110W camera and Fritzbox 7490 remote access set up

I'm trying to get an Edimax 9110W camera set up so that I can view it on the web. The web connection is 2d fibre with the camera at local fixed IP 192.168.178.45. I can see the camera at that address with a browser. All looks fine. I'm trying to get the same access going over the net. I've tried all sorts of black magic but nothing works. The 2d connection is fixed IP so there is no dynamic DNS involved.

I'm sure it's the port forwarding that unsticks me. I'm not sure how to set that up. The FB has assigned two random-sounding ports as externally available

Using https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ I can see that:

1443 is closed 80 is closed 15136 is open 26956 is open

whenever I access the page I get a username password prompt which will not accept the username and password I created specifically to access the camera.

What I'm hoping is that someone has the above configuration working, and then I can clone the settings they are using. At the moment I am floundering. There are too many combinations of settings I don't understand.

Connecting the Unifi Gateway to 2Degrees via Fibre

Hi,

We have shifted premises and trying to connect the unifi gateway to the 2degrees via fibre. I am using PPPoE with the same username, password and vlan = 10 as in the previous office. In the gateway, it shows the Internet is connected but when I tried to ping the DNS, I get the output "network unreachable".

Any ideas?

How often does 2 degrees update the listw of compatible wifi calling phones on their web site?

$

I have often thought a WiFi calling phone would be useful in our household which seems to get patchy interior reception, but we are with 2 degrees and like their service to date. Their list of WiFi calling phones looks somewhat static, and one of their pages says 'updating soon in 2018'.

So I guess I'm wondering how often they get around to updating their FAQ and supported Andriod phones. It looks a bit out of date.
