Has anyone else (besides me and @michaelmurfy) noticed that 2degrees connections seem to be losing IPv6 connectivity quite frequently this last week (including tonight)?

Wifi Calling on non NZC Galaxy Note8

I've recently moved over to 2degrees and want to get Wifi Calling setup on my Vodafone purchased Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950F).

The 2Degrees site states " If you purchased your Samsung Galaxy phone from another mobile provider in NZ, it will need a software upgrade. Simply bring your phone into any 2degrees store and we'll help sort this out for you. " Is this software update available anywhere publicly so I can do this myself or do I actually have to go in store for this?

I initially tried flashing the firmware & CSC with odin but it Samsung stopped this from working with Oreo.

Getting tired of my current ISP - looking at 2D - any gotchas?

I am getting a bit tired of my current ISP BigPipe (I have a 200/20 plan UFB) and am looking at moving. Their lack of customer support is quite annoying at times and they gave me grief about upgrading to their top plan saying I was not eligible for 3 months off

2D seems to be recommended. I want to have a 900/400 plan and be able to use my existing router. I currently am using an Asus RT-AC66U which works fine. Bigpipe use PPPOE which is supported in the Asus. I also want static IP

Tried to call 2D but could not wait on the line for them.

Do folks know if 2D uses PPPOE or something else and if something else, would my Asus work?

Any other experiences worth relating?

Thanks

2degrees - IPv6 overview - How we do it

Update below on IPV6 Address Space allocation - 10th October 2018.

Hi All,

With the introduction of BYOD (some customers choosing not to use a 2degrees supplied Fritzbox), we've had a bunch of queries about ipv6, how we provision it, what technologies we use etc. In order to assist you with troubleshooting any other equipment you may use, the team (Thanks Aaron) have pulled together the following information.

2degrees uses Juniper equipment to terminate subscribers, checkout the following links for more information on the architecture used and the implementation overview - Basic Architecture of a Subscriber Access Dual-Stack Network and Overview of Using DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation.

2degrees uses DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation to assign IPv6 prefixes to customer CPE, the only requirement this puts on the CPE is identification and choosing a prefix for delegation.

DHCPv6 prefix delegation process

The BNG provides IPv6 prefixes available for delegation. In the case of dynamic customers this is provided by a local address-assignment pool, and for static IPv6 customers the BNG is informed of the /56 prefix to use via our RADIUS server. Even though it's a static assignment the BNG will still delegate the prefix to the CPE using DHCPv6.

The CPE requests one or more prefixes from the delegating router. The standard is a /64 allocation per LAN segment.

The BNG chooses the prefixes for delegation, and responds to the CPE.

The CPE is then responsible for the delegated prefixes.

CPE WAN link

Below are the methods we support:

Link-local IPv6 address - The link-local address is provisioned by the appending the interface identifier negotiated by IPv6CP with the IPv6 link-local prefix (fe80::/10).

DHCPv6 prefix delegation - The CPE can use the prefix it receives from the BNG to assign an IPv6 address to the interface between the CPE and BNG. A Fritzbox modem uses this method by default.

Fritz configuration example (in lab environment)

This is the default setup and will establish a native IPv6 connection, the below configuration would be more specific

Here you can see the IPv6 address assigned to the CPE-BNG interface and the prefix that was delegated.

The Fritz in its default setup will assign the first available /64 to the LAN segment.

For our dynamic subscribers we allocate a /48 or /56 address space depending on the version of code they are running (due to our currently upgrades in progress), for static customers we allocate a /56 address space. Upgrades are planned to be completed in the first week of November 2018 which will see us standardise on /56 for all subscribers.

Sony Xperia XZ4 in NZ for 2Degrees?

Hi all,

Just curious if there has been any mention of Sony's upcoming XZ4 making it to 2degrees.

I currently have a 6P on its last leg. I've enjoyed having it, but would like something a bit different. The XZ4 looks to fit that bill.

Cheers,

Tony

2D LTE modem

I need to get 3 scoreboard laptops online (reliably but with low bandwidth) in a disused (Smales) quarry but I'm on a (sports club) budget. Their separation (120 m through trees) means I need 2 WiFi APs to get all three connected. I expect it'll be easier to provide LTE connectivity at two unconnected APs. There is no requirement for comms between the laptops (only laptop to cloud and laptop to court-side displays) so this seems efficient.

2DM is my preferred (existing) mobile vendor but I've spent a long time on their web site and visited 2 different physical stores and they don't seem to even understand what I'm trying to do, let alone offer anything like such a solution. Am I missing something?

I am considering purchasing a pair of unlocked Huawei B310 B310s-518 4G LTE CPE WIFI router/modems with antennae at about $70 each on AliExpress, bunging in a couple of 2D sims and buying a $10 data pack for each whenever I want to use them. Are there any compatibility gotchas that I'm likely to walk into?

For a slightly higher cost I could buy three unlocked Huawei E3372 E3372h-607 (plus a pair of antennae) 4G LTE USB modems at about $50 each and use my existing WiFi AP for on-site WiFi to the courtside displays.

I'm keen to get this network running for a competition at the end of the month so I've got to pull my finger out but I want to avoid buying the wrong stuff and having to start again with no time or money left. This must be a fairly common thing to want to do so I expect there is a heap of experience that I can draw on here.

Thanks in advance. Jef.

Mobile calls routed to VOIP if no mobile coverage

Hi

I was advised that 2 Degrees had a product as outlined in title, i.e. if you were in an area where you had terrible mobile coverage, if your phone was connected to internet via other means it would route the mobile call via VOIP to your mobile phone.

I cant seem to find details on their website, about this service though, anyone know anything about it?

Thanks

Is there something wrong with the 2Degrees site today? I used to be able to log in fine but now (on both mobile and desktop) I log in, the 2degrees loading animation starts, then it logs me out again with error: "Your session has expired. Please log back in to continue."

New to 2Degrees Fibre

Hi All

Just recently switched to 2Degrees Fibre Max from Spark Fibre Max.

I was told that a text would be sent to confirm my live connection date.

No text was received, however getting home after work noticed a browser message on my phone saying something along the lines of "plug in your 2degrees modem".

Modem plugged in as per the instructions: ONT into Lan 1.

Updated the SSID names for 2.4G and 5G and connected to the 5G.

Immediately did several speed tests via speedtest app. Over wifi to my mobile phone, this is an average of 92 Mb/s down and 350-400 up.

Now i know its always best to check connection speeds via Ethernet however on Spark on wifi, my average download was a consistent ~ 250 mb/s down and up.

Checking the pinned post about trouble shooting issues, it seems that my profile isn't quite correct. I also saw a mention of a user getting better connection speeds when connecting the ONT to Lan 2.

I'll call 2Degrees after work tonight to check the profile and will also try Lan2 for the ONT.

Cheers

Facebook & Instagram loading issues on certain 2Degrees IPv4 subnets?

$

Hey y'all,

So I'm on 2Degrees Fibre and for a little over 2 weeks now I have identified a frustrating problem with accessing Facebook when I'm assigned certain IPv4 IP addresses on 2Degrees. The issue is that images are not loading in Chrome web browsers or even the iOS Facebook and Instagram apps on my mobile devices. When trying to access via Chrome I can see it stalling out 5-edge-chat.facebook.com in the Chrome status bar. Using Chrome Inspector there are massive amount of pending request tied to Facebooks CDN network (fbcdn.net).

Here's the kicker...

This *only* occurs if I have been issued an IPv4 address in the following ranges (that I have identified so far...there could be more)

151.210.149.0/24

151.210.150.0/24

151.210.153.0/24

I can instantly resolve this issue on my mobile devices, laptop, or desktop system by connecting to a VPN or by bouncing my 2D PPPOE session until I get issued an IP address outside of those subnets (e.g. 111.69.182.0/24).

I have reported this to 2D 11 days ago and they can only tell me 'they are investigating'. My guess is this is probably confusing the heck out of lots of other poor 2D customers who land on those subnets.

So, I'm just kind of making this post as a PSA (Public Service Announcement) in case anyone else is vexxed by this problem. If for some reason someone is on one of those subnets and Facebook is working for you, I'd be fascinated to hear about it, though. This problem is totally device/platform agnostic for me. And before anyone else posts this question....Yes, I have checked IP Tables at the firewall level and, no, I don't have any weird rules that would affect just those network ranges

Help with Modem Setup Ultra Hub

$

Can anyone help us? I have been given a Vodafone Ultra Hub modem and want to set it up as a backup modem in case my Fritzbox ever fails, so I can just plug it in till I can get a new one.

I have Factory reset it etc. Gone into the Wan settings and under the Fibre connection, put in our log in and password and what I think are the correct settings i.e. VLAN 10 etc and cannot get it to connect to 2dgrees.

A mate had an old HG659 and that works.

Has anyone ever connected a Ultra Hub to 2degrees?

If so what are the settings or what am I missing?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Graham

I've noticed in the last month that twice I couldn't access the Fritz!box from inside my network using the HTTPS protocol. Looking at Internet | Permit access I see "TCP Port for HTTPS" changed to something different than 443. I change this back and works again.

Anyone else seeing this?

Just wanting to give a shout out to 2 degrees for my recent fibre install.

Having just had fibre go live in our street, and getting some advice on who to go with (thanks michaelmurfy) I have had a painless install process.

Rang 2 degrees on the evening of 31 January to get the process started. Very helpful on the phone and set up the process with dates for visits, with final visit and connection due 7 March.

My initial site check visit was right on time and simple, and no issued with the way I wanted it to progress.

The next visit they ran the fibre through from the street to the house, dug a very narrow trench across the front lawn and right to where I had requested the ETP.

I received a phone call wanting to know if they could bring the final visit and connection forward to 26 February which I was happy enough to have happen and the installer turned up right on time and completed a very tidy install from the ETP, through under the house right to where I wanted the ONT behind my entertainment cabinet. He was friendly and got the job done in under an hour and a half. I believe he was working for Broadspectrum.

Before leaving he checked it was up and running, performed a speedtest and was gone with bugger all fuss or mess.

Each step of the way I received text messages from 2 degrees to remind me of visits the following day.

I've heard of nightmare install processes from all providers and install workers so thought I would share a positive story for a change.

Thanks 2 degrees and Broadspectrum.

Just checked with the Windows Speedtest app and getting a solid 97/31 on the 100/20 plan. A marked improvement over my old VDSL connection.

Issue between 2degrees and chorus is bouncing back and forth

1)

I moved from a 2degrees fiber 100/20Mbps plan to a 900/400Mbps plan.

It was in theory enabled on Thursday 8AM.

When I plug the ONT LAN1 cat6 ethernet cable into a Gigabit switch I get 100Mbps FDX.

My speedtest now shows 93 down/85up.

2 degrees logged a fault with chorus.

2)

Chorus came back to 2degrees saying 'no issues on their end'

3)

Went through all the factory reset of the FritzBox with 2degrees again today and they can not get the FritzBox to run at 1000FDX.

We did all the swap test cables/port dance, no improvements.

4)

The issue is passed back to chorus again.

Looks like an ONT or more likely cabling issue on the chorus end now.

Lets see how this ping pong of tossing issues back and forth goes, first time I am testing 2 degrees support and the support people are patient but we are not making any progress so far.

Day 1 run all the tests !

Day 2 Re-run all those test again !? Same result.

2degrees Kiwi Hero Plan

$

I just saw this on the 2degrees website last night so went in today to get it applied to my plan (as my sister is in the defence force) however couldn't get it for myself.

See here: https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/mobile/pay-monthly/kiwi-hero-plan/

With my sister being in the defence force it grants me a "Forces 4 Families" card. This isn't a card with any ID on it, it is just a discount card where I can get the same discounts as her at a number of places. See here for more details: http://nzdf.mil.nz/families/discounts/default.htm

Now, on the 2degrees site it lists this as an acceptable form of ID but got told it was not when I went into the store. The guy was nice, he checked with dealer support who stated the same but I can't help thinking that somewhere along the line there is some confusion with this card and what it is. I have a feeling I am right here and the plan applies to me being a cardholder.

I think as a whole this is an excellent initiative from 2degrees but will be keen for them to either correct this on the site (if this isn't the case) or make it aware to everyone it actually includes immediate family cardholders also as this is literally what the forces 4 family card is for.
